The Lord Mayor of London visits Blue Mermaid!
Sailors with disabilities from the RYA Sailability group ‘The Woolverstone Project’ have enjoyed an exciting trip on our Thames sailing barge Blue Mermaid this September. Joining the barge in her home port on the River Blackwater, Essex, they crewed her around the Essex coast and up the River Thames to join the annual celebration of Thames Day. For these sailors who all sail regularly with ‘The Woolverstone Project’ the trip was an opportunity to experience the challenge of sailing a much bigger boat in an offshore environment, and to enjoy the social benefits that come from a residential voyage. In London they were joined aboard Blue Mermaid by the Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli, who stayed aboard the barge for the passage under Tower Bridge. Sea-Change Sailing trust are honoured to have be chosen as one of the Lord Mayor’s supported charities this year, and we were delighted to be able to welcome the Lord Mayor onboard Blue Mermaid during his year in office.
